When the Animal Care Profession meets Animal Activist wonderful things can take shape. This is what is happening thanks to Dr. Maxina Hunt von Herbing with the creation of North Atlantic Remote Vet Services. NARVS’s mandate is to provide essential veterinary care to remove communities in Newfoundland, especially those in remote northern Labrador where veterinary care simply doesn’t exist.
NARVS is well on it’s way to become a Canadian Not for Profit Charity offering these essential services free of charge to communities that desperately need it. A supporter of the TNR (Trap – Neuter – Return) program, Dr. Hunt von Herbing plans on offering spay & neuter clinics for Northern Labrador communities where domestic dogs often roam free in pack which causes an explosion in the population, and then results in annual dog shoots where these animals are shot and killed on sight to prevent the population explosion. North Atlantic Remote Vet Services programs will help prevent the killing of these animals in remote Northern communities.
Dr. Hunt von Herbing also plans on offering mobile vet services to other remote communities in the province where pet owners may not be able to have easy access to veterinary services. Dr. Hunt also has plans to hold T-N-R clinics to help with cat colonies in the province as well, as animal rescue organizations attempt to control the out of control population.
Dr. Hunt von Herbing and NARVS is currently fundraising to purchase the remaining equipment necessary to provide these services. You can place a donation and learn more about what NARVS is all about by CLICKING HERE or their Facebook Group here
Silverhawk Promotions Ltd is pleased to offer our support for such a worthwhile cause with providing the necessary marketing to North Atlantic Remote Vet Services. We feel it is vital to support causes such as this throughout our Province. Together we can build stronger communities.
At Silverhawk Promotions Ltd, it’s always a privilege to work with small businesses who through the service or products they offer end up supporting additional small businesses in the community. One such local business is Loves It – Newfoundland Subscription Box.
Loves It, is a new business that offers a monthly sample of Newfoundland products from local crafters and artisans. All products are locally sourced and each box contains 4-7 products that are then delivered straight to your door – it’s like a Christmas gift every month with a sample of Newfoundland, perfect for those living away from home! Individuals can purchase a one time only box, as well as a 6 or 12 month subscription.
What a perfect gift for that Newfoundlander living away, or even for yourself here at home, and it’s a win-win situation, as in supporting a local business, you are supporting all the other local businesses, crafters and artsians that Loves It are buying from! The positive spin-off that happens in a case like this is amazing and supports a wide variety of small local businesses that might otherwise not get the larger scale exposure; and to place the icing on top of the marketing cake – these small businesses may even pick up a few new customers that choose to make additional direct purchases after being exposed to products via the Loves It Subscription Box.
This is positive local marketing done right with benefits that expand deep into the community. Kudos to Loves It for offering such a great product and allowing the businesses they buy from to piggy-back along for the ride.
Sometimes marketing yourself is something that unfolds due to a necessity rather than a desire for additional business. This was the case for our latest client Gary Loder of Loder Process Service. Gary is a process server for the Clarenville & Surrounding Areas and due to recent changes within the Sheriff’s office, quickly found himself in a position where he had to get a presence online or risk not being found at all.
Gary found that new lawyers in the area were not aware of him or his process service in the area. In today’s age of technology and information at our fingertips, rather than asking the elder peers, these young lawyers often turned to the Internet for find the information they needed, only to discover that according to the Internet, there was no one providing this service – when in fact Gary has been providing Process Service for the past 40 years.
The recent changes within the Sheriff’s office now prevents the office from disclosing the contact information of process servers period. This leaves law firms having to research this information for themselves, and risks leaving people like Gary out in the dark if they don’t have an online presence of some sort.
Gary approached Silverhawk Promotions Ltd, and we were able to cost effectively provide him with a minimal website that meets his needs, and we can do the same for any other Process Server/Service who have found themselves in the same situation. Contact us for full details.

Slower-Season Website Special
Take advantage of the off-season and include a professionally developed website to your existing business marketing plan. Silverhawk Promotions Ltd. is located in the Clarenville area, and will work with you to customize a website specific to your requirements.
From time to time we work with clients who are looking to get the “Full Meal Deal” when it comes to marketing. Gros Morne Scenic Tours was one such client. After deciding to re-brand, they needed some major marketing work done, which included edits to their existing logo, new business cards, rack card and a new website.
Whenever possible, its best to do as much as you marketing work done at the same time – you’ll often get a package deal then and save yourself some money vs purchasing services ones at a time. If you are in the tourism industry, we understand fully that any marketing work you get done is done so in the off-season when you can focus on what needs to be done. It’s near impossible to focus on working with a designer during peak tourist season – we know this first hand and understand the unique needs within this industry.

Business Card Design
Rack Card Design
Some clients that I have are a one time only deal. They come to me for a logo development, or perhaps some graphic marketing and then we part ways. That’s fine – that’s all part of the business. I am pleased to say that I do have more repeat clients than one shot deals, with many of my clients coming back to me every time they require work done. It’s a combination of good customer service, listening to their wants & needs, and of course providing them with a final product that they are extremely happy with. All that in combination is what brings a repeat client.
Stolen Moments Photography in Clarenville is one such client. I originally met owner Melanie, back in 2011 (if I remember correctly). It started out as a logo/watermark design, continued to a business card, and even a gift certificate design if memory serves me right; and finally her website. Now 3 years later, I just completed a brand new look to her existing web site.
Although in this particular case, the re-design was brought on by some technical issues with the host server, it brings up a valid point – it is vital to keep things fresh and up to date on your website. It’s not just a matter of getting it designed, launch it to the world and that’s it. You need to keep things fresh with new content, images and give customers a reason to keep popping back from time to time – especially if you are in a very visual field, where your customer base require to be visually stimulated by your work. Such fields include photography, anything tourism related and even restaurants and bakeries. Visitors to your website want to be visually stimulated by what they see, and you need that stimulation to give the visitor a positive effect – in essence give them that warm fuzzy feeling that makes them think “yeah, I’d really like this business/place/person”.
In order to effectively produce that effect, you need to be always updating your website with new content. There is nothing worse than re-visiting a website in one of these visual fields and finding the same content that is 6 months to a year old (or sometimes even older). It makes you wonder if they are busy, or even in operation anymore.
In closing, always keep your website as up to date as possible – even if it means forcing yourself to throw up a few new photos every month or so. Give your visitors a reason to keep coming back. The little extra work to keep things fresh will pay off in the end.
Although this isn’t directly related to marketing, it is Internet related, and more specifically Social Media.
Social Media exploded Thursday night following the NHL’s playoff game between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens. Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban scored the winning goal in double-overtime. It was to be expected after an intense game for both players and fans alike, and you’d totally expect to hear from fans after ANY game going into double-overtime, but what makes this different is that the Boston Fans (and I use the word fans lightly) were attacking P.K Subban due to his skin color – Raciest comments such as: “That stupid n—-r doesn’t belong in hockey #whitesonly.
Now granted, there were FAR FAR more Boston Fans who spoke out against such raciest comments, defending Subban and telling others that those few Boston fans were a complete embarrassment to the club, to Boston and even to being a fan. Thank goodness for people with their heads on straight.
Social Media is a very powerful tool, and anyone who spends a great deal of time on any social media platform can attest to this statement. On any given day you’ll see dozens of posts in your feed from anything from someone searching for the owner of an item that was found, a post regarding a stolen vehicle, or even so far as alerting the public of criminal activity or a missing child. Even police organizations and large corporations have recognized the importance and power of Social Media and often take to it to push important public notices that need to hit the masses as quick as possible. It’s Social Media that makes it possible for a single post or image to be shared and reach thousands of people within minutes.
Social Media is very powerful and your thoughts once you hit that send button can be seen by hundreds or even thousands within moments. This can be fantastic when used properly, or can draw the negative attention by the masses – sometimes as it should.
I’m in no way defending the comments made by those Boston fans, nothing could be further from the truth. I think the comments were outrageous, appalling and made by a bunch of bigots who had the internet at their fingertips.
The fact of the matter is this. We are all responsible for what we say on the internet. We can all be held accountable for things we do and say on the internet. There is no such thing as anonymity on social media.
It begs the question to those fans who made the comments, Would you have made those comments if you were sitting in a crowded bar? Would they have left your house, run out into the street and screamed it out at the top of your lungs? There is a good chance if you asked those questions to the majority of those individuals who had made racial comments, they would look at you as if you had six heads and say “Of Course Not!”. Than why make them on social media where thousands see it, and it spreads to hundreds of thousands.
I don’t think there are more people that are raciest these days. I simply think that there just seems like there is due to the fact these individuals express their thoughts and beliefs on social media to the masses more freely than they would speak those same thoughts.
Social Media is powerful. Think before you act.
